Programs

Educational

We have a strong connection to nature and the outdoors and understand that young children need to move
and do in order to learn. Our ethos allows the children to freely explore the indoors and outdoors and engage in hands-on experiential and enquiry based learning which, supported by our intentional teaching creates the
perfect environment for their natural curiosity to flourish and the learning to follow. Play is very important for children and is one of the foundations of the
Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. A play based program does not however, mean that children just do what they like all day but rather are actively engaged in a range of developmentally appropriate experiences.  Our play based program takes concrete form in the shape of the large program book which provides a visual representation of the children's learning.
"Unrestricted out door play is essential to children's healthy sensory, motor, social and intellectual development…"

Long Day Care

East West Long Day Care is a place where children can be children. A place where they are supported to play, explore and discover; a place to take risks, make mistakes and problem solve; a place to learn and grow and be.

Kindergarten

As East west is an integrated long day kinder and childcare centre we run our kinder programs within regular centre programming and extended those ideas and learning opportunities to all of the children.

On Mondays we will have Yellow kinder (3YO) on site at East West and take part in a range of experiences including art, music, reading, games, cooking, indoor and outdoor play.

On Tuesdays Yellow Kinder kids will go out on a weekly excursion to the local Ngár-go area including Atherton Gardens, Community Grocer, local baker, Fitzroy Library and Condell Garden plots. We especially like to look at significant spots in local Indigenous culture and history and prompt discussions. We bring our findings back to East West so everyone can share in them.

Our Red Kinder (4YO) program is designed to meet the needs of each individual child. We have a strong emphasis on equity, self reliance, community and democratic decision making. Wednesdays are our Out & About days, Fridays are (usually) integrated within East West and include the much loved Kinder Art.

Music & Dance

We understand the importance of music and dance and as such have the highly skilled Kylie & Lilana work with us on a weekly basis.

As a trained educator I have worked in early childhood developing music and movement programs for over 20 years!  The program focuses on experiential and inclusive learning with real instruments and a variety of textures, colours and puppet friends, growing music together through joy.

East West day is my favourite day of the week!
Even after more that 15 years I look forward to dancing with the children & immersing myself in a nurturing & welcoming space where the caring staff provide opportunities for the children to explore, discover & grow.
Love it!
